In the interior of a large, dusty state like Texas, towns on the water are rare. This town north of Dallas is one of those places: Rowlett is bordered by portions of Lake Ray Hubbard to the east and south. It has also preserved an unusual level of community closeness. Another big draw is home prices: a similar house by the same builder can cost significantly more in nearby Plano.Despite the unpredictable rush-hour traffic on Interstate 30, many residents make the commute to Dallas every workday. –J.S.
